Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What if I forget my Homework at home? Do I still lose points?
If the homework is not in class by the due date it is considered late. The late policy applies and you loose 1 credit per day. To avoid this please complete your homework on time and place it in your science folder and in your backpack as soon as it is done. There are NO exceptions! Forgotten Homework = No Homework What if I am absent for a number of days? If you are absent you will have the same amount of days that you were absent to make up the work. For example, if you are absent two days, you will have two days to make up any work that you missed. After the two days passed, your work will be considered late and you will start loosing points. Do I get the work that I missed when I was absent during class?
All homework assignments and packets are located in the self help area in one of the folders. Science homework is given on Mondays and reviewed on Thursdays. If you were absent on a Monday, just go to the self help area and look inside the Monday folder and get your homework. You do not have to ask me for permission to go to the self help area. Packets are also in this area under the day that they were given. If you need extra help, you can ask me to have a conference during lunch or after school. For instance, if you want to stay with me on Wednesday, you must ask me on Tuesday so I can make sure I am available. You are in charge of your learning now, so you need to be proactive about things, and I will always be here to support you. My assignment is dirty, broken, and I wrote so fast I can’t even read my own hand writing... can I still submit it? I think you know the answer to that one is NO. Your work is a reflection of you. I take the time to read everything you give me, so it would be extremely disrespectful if you were to give me an assignment like that. Such assignments will be given back to you and your work will be considered late when you re-do it. Also assignments that do not make any sense, for example if you completed it during your lunch in a minute of your time, will also be returned to you. Please take your time with your homework and value your work. |
When the bell rings to go to another class, do I just get up and leave?
There is a procedure for dismissal when you are going from my class to another. In fact, we follow the same procedure when moving from any class to another class! The picture below shows the procedure for dismissal! What about Extra-Credit? Extra credit is extra, this means that it will only be given to students who complete all normal work. If you are interested in an extra credit opportunity you must come up with the assignment and get it approved by me. Extra credit assignments could range from writing an essay on an environmental problem, to developing your own class activity around a particular topic. What if I NEED Extra Help on a topic?
If you need extra help on a topic, are unsure or struggling with anything, you can always contact me.Please do not wait until the last minute! It is my job to help you and I love when students ask for help. In my other school, if I didn’t understand an assignment I just didn’t do it and it was ok. Is that ok with you?
Now you are older, you are in 5th grade. With getting older comes more responsibility. You are now responsible for your learning, and I will be next to you every step of the way supporting you.
